Donegal 2-6 Laois 2-9 (FT)

Hello, and welcome to our liveblog of the Allianz League, as Donegal take on Laois.

And we’re underway…

Here is the Laois side:

Eoin Culliton (Timahoe),  Cahir Healy (Portlaoise), Kieran Lillis (Portlaoise), Peter O’Leary (O’Dempsey’s), Darren Strong (Emo), John O’Loughlin (St Brigid’s), Conor Boyle (Portlaoise), Kevin Meaney (Arles-Kilcruise), Brendan Quigley (Timahoe), Ross Munnelly (Arles-Kilcruise), Colm Begley (Parnells), Damien O’Connor (Timahoe), Paul Cahillane (Portlaoise), Padraig Clancy (Timahoe), David Conway (Arles-Kilcruise).

Laois have gone ahead, courtesy of a Ross Munnelly free.

Munnelly has now got his second point in succession. It’s been a good start for Laois.

Anthony Thompson has just hit a poor attempt wide, compounding Donegal’s poor start in the process.

Here are some of today’s other current scorelines:

Westmeath 0-0 Meath 0-2, Monaghan 0-3 Kildare 0-2, Tyrone 0-1 Derry 0-2, Limerick 1-7 London 1-13.

Patrick McBrearty has finally put some points on the board for Donegal, with a straightforward free from about 30 yards out. They have been extremely wasteful in attack so far.

Patrick McBrearty swivels away from his man and scores an excellently-taken point to bring Donegal level.

David Conway then immediately scores a point at the other end, to restore his side’s advantage.

A quick free from Laois finds that man again, Ross Munnelly, unmarked, and he finishes well once more.

Some last-ditch defence from Donegal prevents Conway from getting a shot on goal, but Colm Begley follows up with a point, after the hosts only half clear it.

Patrick McBrearty grabs a point for Donegal before Padraig Clancy restores the visitors three-point lead.

GOAL FOR LAOIS!

Paul Cahillane scores a penalty after Padraig Clancy is adjudged to have been impeded by Karl Lacey, after catching a high ball into the Donegal box.

HALF TIME: DONEGAL 0-4 LAOIS 1-6

So Laois deservedly lead a below-par Donegal at half time. The visitors have looked that extra bit sharper and fitter than Jim McGuinness’ men so far.

Here’s how today’s other games are developing:

Cork 4-07 Down 0-07

Allianz Football League Division 2

Westmeath 0-04 Meath 0-10

Monaghan 0-09 Kildare 0-06

Allianz Football League Division 4

Limerick 1-13 London 1-07 (FT)

Carlow 0-06 Leitrim 1-04

Fermanagh 0-02 Clare 0-05

The second half is underway…

Poor attempt from McBrearty, who hits a free wide from straight in front of the posts.

More good work from Ross Munnelly – who  has been very impressive – to set up Paul Cahillane, who shoots wide.

A lovely flowing move from Laois ends with Darren Strong slotting it over. They now lead by six points.

Donegal manage to string a few passes together, but good pressure from the Laois backs eventually causes them to concede possession.

Conway subsequently adds to Laois’ advantage.

Again, Rory Kavanagh loses possession all too easily.

This very much has the look of an early-season performance from Donegal – they seem somewhat off the pace.

GOAL FOR LAOIS!

High ball into the box from Strong, and Clancy does exceptionally well to turn and shoot past the keeper from close range. Game over?

Donegal need an average of a point a minute to rescue this game – surely an impossible task.

Kavanagh has just scored a point to the sound of muted cheers.

GOAL FOR DONEGAL!

GOAL FOR DONEGAL!

Amazing stuff! Neil Gallagher smashes home following a defensive error, a minute after a controversial goal that is adjudged to have crossed the goalline despite Laois’ protrests.

Anthony Thompson scored Donegal’s first goal by the way. Although Laois will probably claim he didn’t.

FULL TIME: DONEGAL 2-6 LAOIS 2-9

So a well-deserved win for Laois, despite getting a bit of a scare late on.
