Tyrone 2-11 Kildare 0-12 (FT)

Hello, and welcome to our liveblog of Tyrone against Kildare.

Tyrone have taken an early lead, while Kildare have been wasteful in attack, already registering a number of wides.

Stephen O’Neill casually slots over a free to extend Tyrone’s lead.

Eoin O’Flaherty has just put the first points on the board for Kildare, with a free just to the left of the goal.

Good work from James Kavanagh earns Kildare a free, which Mike Conway has no trouble slotting over.

A brief break in play provides the perfect chance to have a look at the lineups today:

Tyrone: P McConnell; A McCrory, Justin McMahon, PJ Quinn, C McCarron, P Harte, D Carlin, M Murphy, Joe McMahon, M Donnelly, P Hughes, M Penrose, O Mulligan, M Donnelly, S O’Neill.

Kildare: S Connolly, P Kelly, C Fitzpatrick, O Lyons, B Flanagan, T O’Neill, E O’Flaherty, D Flynn, R Sweeney, T Moolick, M Conway, P O’Neill, J Kavanagh, T O’Connor, A Smith

Peter Kelly has just put Kildare into the lead for the first time, following an excellent, surging run.

Kildare are on the rampage now. Mikey Conway has scored his second point of the game. It’s also Kildare’s fifth consecutive point, following their less-than-assured start to this game.

Eoin Mulligan has just scored Tyrone’s first point for almost twenty minutes, with a routine free.

Yet immediately, Kildare respond with a free of their own, as Mikey Conway gets his third point of the game.

One minute of added time, as the first half comes to a close.

HALF TIME: TYRONE 0-3 KILDARE 0-6 Kildare weren’t happy, as the referee blew his whistle just as they looked to be in a promising position.

Kildare have looked the slightly sharper of the two sides and deserve their half time lead. Perhaps they still have last year’s agonising All-Ireland quarter-final defeat (see below) in the back of their minds:

The lads in the Setanta studio reckon Tomas O Connor has been the difference between the two sides in the first half.

And we’re back…

Stephen O’Neill has just scored his third point of the night, and Tyrone have begun the second half well.

GOAL FOR TYRONE!

Martin Penrose punches into the net after an excellent forward run from Peter Harte.

John Doyle responds for Kildare before Eoin Mulligan restores Tyrone’s advantage, and Ronan O’Neill then extends it.

Padraig O’Neill has brought Kildare level again. The tempo has noticeably increased in the second half.

Shane Connolly catches the ball and clears it at the second attempt. He looked very indecisive momentarily.

Mikey Conway has put Kildare into the lead with a well-taken free from distance. Conway has undoubtedly been one of his side’s star performers.

Damien McCall has brought the teams level again following a strong forward run.

GOAL FOR TYRONE!

Brilliant through ball from Mulligan, and Harte fists it into the net, getting clattered by Connolly in the process. That was a really well-worked move.

Another wonderful point from Mulligan, who has impressed this evening.

And all of a sudden, Tyrone have established a commanding lead.

Stephen O’Neill has just heaped more misery on Kildare, with another point.

And O’Neill scores another point from distance. Tyrone really look in the mood now.

Mikey Conway gets his fifth point of the evening – but surely it’s only a consolation at this stage.

Mikey Conway gets another point for an impressively resilient-looking Kildare.

Meanwhile, Sean Cavanagh comes on for Tyrone.

Eoin Mulligan has deservedly been made Man of the Match by co-commentator Tommy Carr, as Callaghan shoots agonisingly wide for Kildare.

FULL TIME: TYRONE 2-11 KILDARE 0-12

So that’s that then. Despite looking less than convincing for a period in the first half in which they went almost twenty minutes without scoring, Tyrone, led by Eoin Mulligan, were ultimately deserving winners. On the basis today’s performance, they’ll be formidable opponents for anyone this year.

Okay, I’m done for now, but I’ll be back very shortly to liveblog Dublin versus Kerry. See you in a bit, hopefully.
