Macauley, Cluxton and Keegan to contest Footballer of the Year award

The nominees for the 2013 Football of the Year awards have been announced.

DUBLIN DUO MICHAEL Darragh Macauley and Stephen Cluxton will contest the 2013 GAA/GPA Footballer of the Year awards along with Mayo’s Lee Keegan.

All-Ireland winners Macauley and Cluxton, and Mayo defender Lee Keegan will be in line for the leading accolade in the Opel sponsored awards scheme.

Macauley was an Allstar awards winner in 2011 and the Ballyboden-St Enda’s club man shone at midfield this year for Dublin.

Cluxton is a four-time Allstar winner having been named in goal in the teams in 2002, 2006, 2007 and 2011. Keegan was an Allstar winner last year after his performances in defence for Mayo.

Meanwhile the Young Footballer of the Year award will also be contested by Dublin and Mayo players. Cillian O’Connor, who has claimed the award in this category for the last two years, is in the running again along with Dublin wing-back Jack McCaffrey and Dublin corner-forward Paul Mannion.

The awards will be made on Friday November 8th at a banquet in Croke Park.
