A VINTAGE PERFORMANCE from out-half Ian Madigan helped Leinster to a 22-17 win over Glasgow Warriors in the RaboDirect Pro12 at the RDS this evening.
It was, however, a game that Leinster seldom looked like winning.
Ed Kalman gave the visitors the advantage with an early try, after good work from Josh Strauss, with Duncan Weir getting the conversion.
A further penalty from Weir, along with four from Madigan kept the game relatively close, though Peter Horne’s try following a good break from Daniel van der Merwe helped the Scottish side into a 17-12 at the break.
The game remained relatively even after half-time, with both sides getting opportunities to score the crucial next try.
However, it was ultimately Madigan who made the difference, selling a clever dummy deep in opposition territory before running in under the posts.
The Irish international capped off an impressive Man-of-the-Match-winning performance by converting, before adding another penalty shortly thereafter.
There was still time for the Scottish side to give their opponents a scare with seconds remaining.
They appeared on the verge of scoring a try, however referee Nigel Owens controversially penalised Glasgow for a forward pass, bringing a halt to their attack and blowing the final whistle, much to the visitors’ chagrin.
