Man killed after trying to save his brother from being hit by Tube

“People were crying, it was such an horrific scene.”

A MAN HAS been killed after trying to save his brother from being hit by a Tube in central London.

Nick Mann (35) is thought to have been hit by the train when he leapt to rescue his younger brother Robert (32), after he fell on to the tracks at Old Street station in central London at 12.20am yesterday.

Robert is in a stable but critical condition at Royal London Hospital. Nick lived in London, while Robert lives in Manchester.

The British Transport Police said officers found two men with serious injuries when they arrived at the scene early on Sunday morning.

The elder bother died in hospital hours later.

Officers said they are “not currently treating the incident as suspicious and are now working to put together a fuller picture of what happened”.

Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Adrian Naylor said:

I am keen to speak to anyone who was at the station or on the platform when the incident happened to help us understand how the two men came to be struck by a train. If you witnessed the incident please get in touch with us on the number below.

The London Evening Standard quoted an eyewitness as saying:

“One man was under the tube but responding. People were crying, it was such an horrific scene. It is so terrible to hear that someone has died – the man under the train was obviously seriously injured. The atmosphere on the platform turned from happy night out to very grim. I just did not want to look.”
