Man gets 3 months in jail after being caught cigarette smuggling at Dublin Airport yesterday

The 30-year-old appeared in court today after more than 16,000 cigarettes were found in his luggage.

A 30-YEAR-OLD MAN has been sentenced to three months in jail after he was arrested at Dublin Airport yesterday for cigarette smuggling.

The Romanian man had arrived on a flight from Abu Dhabi when he was intercepted and his luggage searched by Revenue’s customs officers.

A total of 16,080 cigarettes were found in the man’s baggage. The cigarettes were Marlboro, Davidoff Gold, and Kent brands.

The man appeared before Judge Walsh in the Criminal Courts of Justice today where he was handed down the three month custodial sentence as well as a fine of €2,500.

Revenue has estimated that the cigarettes had a retail value of €8,000.
