The Old Trafford trophy cabinet won't be empty for a second straight season after all

Man United are the Premier League (U21) title winners.

ALTHOUGH LOUIS VAN Gaal has guided Manchester United back into the top four this season, the bottom line is that it’s now two trophy-less seasons at Old Trafford since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson.

It’s the first time in 26 years that the Red Devils have gone consecutive years without lifting major silverware (the Community Shield doesn’t count) but the club’s U21s have ensured the Old Trafford trophy cabinet won’t go another year empty.

United won the Barclays Premier League U21 title last night as their closest challengers, Chelsea, slipped up at home to West Ham.

Warren Joyce’s side edged closer to glory earlier this week when they thrashed local rivals Manchester City 4-0 on-front of a crowd of 16,708 at the Theatre of Dreams.

Adnan Januzaj, James Wilson and Tyler Blackett have all regularly featured for the U21s this season.

It’s the second time United have won the U21 league in three years.
