AS IT HAPPENED

As it happened: Man United v Everton, Premier League

Ronald Koeman brought his Toffees side to Old Trafford.

Get the kettle on. We’ve got some midweek Premier League this evening.

The teams are in and Zlatan returns from suspension. He’s very welcome, no doubt, after that dour draw with West Brom at the weekend.

Manchester United: De Gea; Young, Bailly, Rojo, Blind; Carrick, Fellaini; Lingard, Herrera, Rashford; Ibrahimovic.

Subs: Romero, Darmian, Fosu-Mensah, Shaw, Pogba, Mkhitaryan, Martial.

Everton: Robles; Holgate, Jagielka, A.Williams, Baines; Barry, Davies, Gana; Barkley, Mirallas; Lukaku.

Subs: Stekelenburg, Valencia, Calvert-Lewin, Lookman, Pennington, Kenny, J.Williams.

Martin O’Neill botherer Ronald Koeman brings some much-needed experience back into his XI with Gareth Barry and Kevin Mirallas replacing Pennington and Calvert-Lewin who featured in the defeat at Anfield.

Ibra’s on BT Sport suggesting he could be the next James Bond. He’d be better than Brosnan.

Jose Mourinho had a proper pop at some of his players after the draw with West Brom at the weekend.

Rio Ferdinand reckons he’s just looking for a reaction.

There’s three other Premier League games tonight of course.; keep up to date here. There’s no goals yet in those 7.45pm kick offs.

The Stone Roses heralds the teams’ arrival and we’re about to kick off.

A win for the away side would see Everton draw level on points with United.

Jose Mourinho will hope a home win to bring them within two of Man City, meanwhile.

And we’re off.

Rashford gets his first head of steam up and forces a corner with a blistering run that is stopped on the byline.  The set piece is wasted.

Zlatan should have opened the scoring.

Holgate makes a mistake and the striker found himself one on one. Ibra dallied while he looked square rather than shoot early and Ashley Williams recovers to get the block in.

Lingard shoots well wide from outside the box but that was a nice, patient build up from the home side.

Flag’s up for offside. But Rashford couldn’t tuck away the chance anyway.

Zlatan picks up the ball, turns and drives forward before playing Rashford through.

Robbie Savage reckons he could have played the pass earlier but the young English striker is just slightly off.

His low shot is pushed wide by the fingertips of Robles, but the linesman intervenes in the meantime.

Good effort from Mirallas from a difficult angle. Gareth Barry floats through a ball which the Belgian forward takes down before shooting. De Gea gets the block in.

GOAL! Man Utd 0 Everton 1, Jagielka 21′

Phil Jagielka puts the away side in the lead. De Gea sticks to his line while Rojo and the England centre half contest a dropping ball a few yards out. Jagielka gets a toe on it and it nestles in the net.

English football’s best pundit breaks down that goal:

Mirallas gives away a stupid free kick by rag-dolling Jesse Lingard to the floor. Blind and Young stand over it before the Dutchman cracks it in.

Robles gets it away and clatters into the post before Herrera smashes the rebound off the bar!

Robles gets his fingers to shot once again. It’s Herrera this time frustrated by the Everton keeper.

This is frustrating for the home supporters but united are on top at the moment.

They probably should have equalised moments ago but Ashley’s Young’s low ball across the face of the goal didn’t find anyone.

Gueye’s booked for leaving a bit on Zlatan’s right ankle. Naughty.

Half-time: Man Utd 0 Everton 1

The sides go in at the break with the hosts a goal down.

And Man Utd aren’t playing particularly well at all though they’ve had chances to equalise. What did you make of that?

Pogba’s on for Blind and he looks pumped. Jose’s had Fergie’s hairdryer out at the break.

And we’re up and running for the second half. It looks like three at the back for the hosts we’re told.

Ibra almost makes something happens. He does that flip-flap trick to beat his man and drive the ball low but Ashley Williams is in the right spot to cut it out once again.

Rashford is taken out of it by Gareth Barry who was experienced enough to know taking a yellow card was preferable to leaving the young winger steam through on goal.

Pogba hits the bar! Ashley Young whips in the free kick, it’s comes off Lukaku on the way though and Pogba nods against the woodwork.

There’s new pics dropping in on the wire service and it looks like Phil Jagielka paid tribute to No 23 Seamus Coleman after that goal earlier?

Fellaini should have drawn United level there. I’ve written that before.

The big Belgian turned slowly in box and toe bogged the ball well wide.

The much-maligned Luke Shaw is on for an injured Ashley Young. Let’s see if he can prove his boss wrong. Henrikh Mkhitaryan replaces Michael Carrick.

Ronald Koeman’s looking to tighten things up it seems as Matthew Pennington is on for Mirallas.

The ball’s in the net but the flag’s up!

Herrera floats in a great ball and Ibra dives to head home but he was slightly offside. 20 minutes to go and the home supporters sound very frustrated.

15 minutes to go and this is scrappy enough.

Everton are sitting back a lot more since Mirallas was was hauled off but they still have the capability to hit United on the break, you suspect.

Everton get forward and Ross Barkley ultimately squeezes a ball across the goal but Shaw pelts it clear. This is tense now.

This is your 10-minute warning. ‘Master tactician of the blame game’ Ronald Koeman’s had an eventful week or so but as things stand he’s about to become the first away manager ever to win three on the trot at Old Trafford.

Herrera leathers one but Jagielka — who’s been brilliant — gets a huge block in. United are reduced to long range efforts at this stage.

Four minutes of injury time.

Corner to United.

Maybe time for one last chanc with a free kick around the halfway line.

Penalty and red card!

Ashley Williams is off! The Wales defender dived to handle a Shaw shot. Zlatan to take the spotter.

Goal for United!

Zlatan slots it home! Drama.

Full-time: Man Utd 1 Everton 1

Well it took a penalty in the end but United got their equaliser deep in injury time.

Everton were heroic in defence but they leave with just a point.

What did you make of that?
