Advantage Liverpool despite De Gea's first-leg heroics

Goals in either half from Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino have given Manchester United a lot to do in next week’s second leg.

LIVERPOOL WILL TAKE  healthy two-goal cushion into their Europa League last 16 second leg against Manchester United.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds ran out convincing 2 – 0 winners in the first leg at Anfield tonight with Roberto Firmino sealing the win with a finish from a poor Michael Carrick clearance.

Liverpool took a first-half lead from a Daniel Sturridge penalty after Memphis Depay was adjudged to have toppled Nathaniel Clyne just inside the area.

The striker made no mistake with his 20th minute spot-kick.

The deficit could have been even been worse for United had David De Gea not been in such good form. The Spaniard showed off his reflexes to thwart Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana.
