Mancini: Aguero will not play for Argentina despite call up

City boss expressed surprise that his injured forward was expected to show up for international duty.

MANCHESTER CITY MANAGER Roberto Mancini has admitted he was surprised to hear injured striker Sergio Aguero had been called up by Argentina.

The Italian told a news conference on Friday the 24-year-old was still “three or four weeks” away from a return to action.

“Aguero is not so bad like we thought,” he said. ”After the international break he will be ready.”

Argentina, however, expect Aguero to report for their games against Paraguay and Peru on September 7 and 11 respectively.

It is expected that Manchester City will hold talks with the Argentinian FA in the next 48 hours and hope to prevent Aguero having to travel to South America for the games.

Mancini also expressed his belief on Friday that this weekend’s opponents, Liverpool, could well challenge for a title this season.

“I think Liverpool will fight for the title this year because they play well, they bought good players, they have a good manager and they have changed their style of play.”
