Man United extend Marouane Fellaini's contract

Jose Mourinho has put great faith in the 29-year-old midfielder despite negativity from fans.

MANCHESTER UNITED HAVE triggered a one-year contract extension for midfielder Marouane Fellaini.

The Belgian international signed a four-year deal after joining from Everton back in August 2013 and manager Jose Mourinho has now activated the option of a further year on the deal.

Fellaini, who has made 21 appearances for United this season, continues to divide opinion among the Old Trafford faithful and was booed by fans last month after conceding a late penalty at Everton.

The 29-year-old endured a difficult festive period but scored in Tuesday’s EFL Cup semi-final win over Hull, and celebrated with his manager on the touchline.

Mourinho has stuck by Fellaini and placed faith in the midfielder despite the negativity and uncertainty surrounding the player’s United career.

With Morgan Schneiderlin set to complete his £22 million move to Everton in the coming days and Bastian Schweinsteiger frozen out, Mourinho’s options in central midfield are limited as is.

Fellaini’s contract extension will see him remain at the club until at least 2018.
