Mayo man claims Euromillions prize, heads straight to Starbucks

He needed a strong cup of coffee, he said.

A MAYO MAN who travelled to Dublin yesterday to pick up his €319,955 ‘match 5′ prize from last Friday’s Euromillions draw said he was heading straight to the nearest Starbucks for a strong cup of coffee, in the wake of all the excitement.

The man, who chose not to reveal his name to the media, bought his €6 Quick Pick ticket in the Gem store in Ballyhaunis.

His selection was just one number away from the jackpot prize – but threw up a ‘Match 5 plus one Lucky Star’ win.

“I got the winning number slip on Saturday morning, and when I saw the numbers, I nearly cracked,” he said.

I had to get family to check and re-check the numbers for me. I’m still in shock, but loving the feeling.

He said the win would get him out of a “very tight spot financially”.

“I’ve been there, done that, and I hope to spend a bit of this win, and invest the rest.

“And tonight, I’ll be raising a glass to Mr. Joyce in the West of Ireland. This is one Bloomsday I won’t forget for a while.”
