Floyd Mayweather says he would like to buy the LA Clippers

What could possibly go wrong?

FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR has put himself forward as a prospective Los Angeles Clippers owner, after incumbent Donald Sterling was banned for life.

The WBC welterweight champion has won all 45 of his professional bouts, including 26 by knock-out, although his latest challenge may prove to much as he seeks to purchase the NBA franchise.

Clippers owner Sterling was banned by league commissioner Adam Silver, and will be forced to sell the Staples Center team amid their play-off campaign.

Mayweather is set to take on Marcos Maidana at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Saturday, with his WBC welterweight and WBA Super World welterweight titles on the line.

But the 37-year-old star had his sights set on purchasing a big slice of the LA franchise, despite the American not capable of bankrolling a majority percentage.

“With me, I can’t come in talking about Mayweather only gonna get three per cent, four per cent. I got to get a solid percentage,” Mayweather said.

“Do we want to buy the Clippers? Yes, we do. We are very, very interested in buying the Clippers.

“We’ll keep the Clippers right where they’re at. When I’m not boxing, I’m at the games all the time. We do want to buy the Clippers. Me and my team do want to buy the Clippers and we can afford the Clippers.”

Not only the financial hurdle, Mayweather is a keen gambler on NBA games, and he understood the ramifications ownership would have on his hobby.

“Once I get ownership in the Clippers, I can no longer bet so I’d have to stop that. The sports book, I’d have to stop that completely,” he said.
