Dramatic Meath comeback salvages draw against Galway as Fermanagh surge past Laois

Tomas Corrigan was the star man for Fermanagh.

MEATH CLAIMED A share of the spoils in dramatic fashion against Galway today as it finished 1-12 to 0-15 in Pearse Stadium in Division 2 of the Allianz football league.

It was a more clearcut affair in Enniskillen as Tomas Corrigan struck 1-11 to inspire Fermanagh to a 1-17 to 0-10 success over Laois.

It was a remarkable game in Salthill. Meath were ahead by nine points, 1-8 to 0-2, at the break and looked set for victory.

But they coughed up that advantage in a similar fashion to last weekend’s tie against Cavan with Galway roaring back into contention to be ahead 0-15 to 1-9 with four minutes left.

However Meath managed to string together three late points courtesy of Graham Reilly, Eamon Wallace and Cian O’Brien as Mick O’Dowd’s side rescued a draw.

Michael Newman, who finished with 1-2, had bagged Meath’s first-half goal but Galway took over in the second-half with Eddie Hoare (0-4) and Shane Walsh (0-3) their top scorers on the day.

Fermanagh enjoyed a straightforward success over Laois with a ten-point win in Brewster Park. Corrigan’s first-half goal set them on their way and he hit 1-8 in the first-half as Fermanagh went in front 1-10 to 0-4 at the break.

Corrigan finished with 1-11 to his name while Donie Kingston struck 0-6 for Laois.

Fermanagh closed out the game in the second-half to claim their second victory in their 2016 Division 2 campaign.
