WHILE MANCHESTER UNITED scored impressive goals of their own through Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata during their 3-2 friendly win over Roma last night, Miralem Pjanic managed to extract a measure of revenge for the Italians with a strike from long range.
The Bosnia and Herzegovina international spotted United ‘keeper Ben Amos off this line and unleashed a remarkable shot from well inside his own half. The back-peddling Amos made a despairing leap to rescue the situation, but Pjanic’s accuracy was extreme.
Asked whether or not he believed the midfielder’s goal from distance was down to poor play from Amos, United boss Louis van Gaal told the BBC: ”What do you think? I’m nearly 63. When the ball is flying in the air for four seconds, I think I run 50 metres.”
Roma manager Rudi Garcia, however, was quick to underline the quality of Pjanic’s effort, saying: ”It was a world-class goal. I’m sure we will see it throughout the world. He probably had a training session yesterday with the Denver Broncos.”
