Mortimer boost for Mayo

James Horan has named an unchanged starting XV for Sunday’s All-Ireland semi-final against Kerry.

MAYO HAVE BEEN handed a huge boost ahead of Sunday’s All-Ireland semi-final with the news that influential wing-back Trevor Mortimer will be fit to start the game against Kerry.

The Shrule-Glencorrib clubman was a major injury concern after he pulled up during training last weekend with a quad strain, but he has been named by James Horan in the half-back line alongside Richie Feeney and Donal Vaughan.

Mortimer’s return to fitness means that the Mayo boss is free to name the same starting XV which upset Cork in the quarter-finals three weeks ago.

The Connacht champions’ other major injury concern, Peadar Gardiner, has been named among the substitutes, though he still faces an anxious wait to see if he can fully shake off a hamstring strain before Sunday.

Mayo (vs Kerry): Hennelly; Cunniffe, Cafferkey, Higgins; Feeney, Vaughan, Mortimer; A O’Shea, S O’Shea; McLoughlin, Dillon, Moran; Varley, Freeman, O’Connor.
