CORK DEFENDER KEVIN Murray has signed a new deal with the club.
The 29-year-old struggled with injury at the start of the 2012 season, but recovered to make 14 appearances for the club.
Speaking following the deal, the defender told the official Cork City website:
“I am thrilled to have signed a new contract with the club for next season. Obviously the first half of last year did not go as I would have wanted it to, but I thought that the second half of the season went well for me personally, and also for the club. I think we can be happy with where we finished in the table in 2012. I am really looking forward to next season and I hope that we can kick on in 2013 and target European qualification.”
Meanwhile, Cork City manager Tommy Dunne added:
“I am delighted that Kevin has signed for the coming season; he is a good, experienced player and also a Cork native. I know he is looking forward to next season, and I hope that he will continue the good form he showed in the second half of last season.”
In addition, it has been announced that Aaron Greene has re-signed for Sligo, following a spell with Shamrock Rovers.
Sligo manager Ian Baraclough said he believes Greene can be a valuable asset to the club.
“It is a pleasing signing and a great addition to the squad.
“Aaron brings a lot of quality and despite being only 22-years-old, he has considerable experience already and a determination to develop his career with Sligo Rovers.
“We are working diligently and patiently to build the squad with players that can improve us and Aaron’s capture is a big boost.”
Finally, Shamrock Rovers have secured the services of defender Derek Foran.
Commenting on the news, the ex-Sligo Rovers, St Patrick’s Athletic and Bray Wanderers player said:
“I’m delighted to have joined Shamrock Rovers. When you get a call asking you to join the biggest club in the country, there is nothing to think about. As soon as Trevor rang me I knew this is where I wanted to be. Trevor is putting together a great squad; I met them yesterday and the professionalism amongst the players is great. I’m really looking forward to the new season now.”
