150 jobs to go as Musgrave ends deal with Blanchardstown supplier

Musgrave won’t be renewing its contract with Wincanton — as it has decided to supply all of its stores from its own distribution network.

WINCANTON, WHICH OPERATES a distribution plant in Blanchardstown, west Dublin on behalf of Musgrave, has announced the potential redundancy of 150 employees at the site.

The company’s current contract is not being renewed by the retail chain when it comes to an end in September, following a decision by Musgrave to supply all of its stores directly from its own distribution network.

Following confirmation of the news, Musgrave announced that it would be hiring 134 new employees across its network of depots in Kilcock, Co Kildare, Fonthill in Dublin and in Cork.

“This will ensure the optimum use of the existing distribution network,” the company said in a statement.

According to a statement from Wincanton:

The company is now entering a 30-day period of consultation with its employees and SIPTU.
