And we’re off…

Patrick Horgan has put the first point on the board for Cork.

It’s been quite a scrappy opening. Galway have hit two wides, but apart from that, there’s not much to report on so far.

Horgan has just added to Cork’s advantage with a point from a close-range free.

Another wide from Galway – they’ve been quite wasteful in attack so far.

Maenwhile, Bernard Burke has registered another point for Cork.

Another point from Horgan – this time, it’s a well-taken free from distance.

Niall Burke has  just scored from a free, as Galway belatedly start to take their chances.

Cork haven’t been quite as dominant as the scoreline suggests. Galway have simply failed to capitalise on a number of opportunities and have undoubtedly had more possession so far.

Another point from Horgan from a free in front of the posts. He’s been the difference between the two teams so far. Literally, in terms of points scored.

GOAL FOR CORK!

After Horgan gets his fifth point from another free, and it starts to feel a bit like deja vu, Cork get the first goal of the game. Cathal Naughton smashes it into the net after some good interplay with Paudie O’Sullivan.

As half-time approaches, Galway already have a mountain to climb.

Niall Burke, however, has just scored from a free in front of the posts, compensating for a similar effort he hit wide minutes previously.

HALF TIME: CORK 1-9 GALWAY 0-7

An interesting first half then. Galway actually began the game reasonably well, but failed to take advantage of some good chances.

Cork, on the other hand, have been extremely clinical in attack. They thus lead by a healthy five-point margin.

And the second half has begun…

Galway were beginning to come back into the game at the end of the first half. And Niall Burke has enabled them to continue where they left off with a point.

Meanwhile, James Skehill has just made a fine save from a Jamie Coughlan strike. It could ultimately be a definitive moment in the game.

Whatever Galway can do, Cork can do better – Dónal Óg Cusack has done well to stop a Damian Hayes  strike going in at the near post.

Horgan has just hit a relatively simple free woefully wide, reflecting how this game has developed, with Galway growing in confidence, whereas Cork have failed to show up for the second half so far.

Paudie O’Sullivan has finally registered Cork’s first point of the second half with his first score of the game.

Davy Glennon bring Galway to within a point of their rivals, before Conor Lehane produces an immediate response.

GOAL FOR GALWAY!

Damian Hayes puts Galway in the lead for the first time, with an excellent finish. What a comeback!

GOAL FOR CORK! A cross-field pass finds Lorcán McLoughlin, who makes no mistake, consequently meaning Cork reclaim the lead. This is developing into a very exciting game.

Galway put themselves back in the lead, with a point from David Burke.

Cork have definitely taken their foot off the pedal, having initially established a sizeable first-half advantage, but Galway also deserve credit for the tenacity they’ve shown.

Lehane has brought the two sides level once more, with a superb point from a difficult angle.

FULL TIME: CORK 2-13 GALWAY 2-17 Incredible stuff! Niall Burke wins it in the last minute with a superbly taken goal, which his performance has deserved.

So Niall Burke ends the game with 1-10, and it’s a victory that Galway probably just about deserve on the balance of play.

Cork, meanwhile, will rue their lax approach to parts of this game, having established a substantial lead at one point.

Right, that’s it from me. Thanks for reading. I’ll be back very shortly to liveblog the Cork footballers’ encounter with Kerry.
