AS IT HAPPENED

As it happened: Dublin v Tipperary, National Hurling League

We went minute-by-minute, as Dublin looked to recover from their extraordinary loss last week, as they took on Tipperary.

As always, we’d love to hear your thoughts on this evening’s action. E-mail paul@thescore.ie, tweet @thescore_ie, post a message to our Facebook wall, or leave a comment below.

Dublin 2-15 Tipperary 0-21 (FT)

Welcome to this afternoon’s liveblog. Hopefully it’ll be as entertaining and unpredictable as Dublin’s game last weekend.

Here are the teams:

Tipperary: D Gleeson; D Maher, P Curran, M Cahill; T Stapleton, C O’Mahony, Padraic Maher; B Maher, J Woodlock; G Ryan, N McGrath, P Bourke; J O’Neill, B O’Meara, S Bourke.

Dublin: G Maguire; N Corcoran, P Schutte, R Trainor; M Carton, J Boland, J McCaffrey; S Durkan, S Lambert; L Rushe, R O’Dwyer, D Sutcliffe; E Dillon, D O’Callaghan, A McCrabbe.

The game is underway and Dublin have already taken the lead.

Great point Sutcliffe from distance, as Gleeson marginally fails to prevent it going over the bar.

Ryan Dwyer has just put Dublin back in the lead. It’s been a lively opening.

Dublin have started well, but have already registered four wides. They’ll need to be more clinical against a side as good as Tipp.

Sutcliffe has just got his second point of the game, restoring Dublin’s two-point advantage.

Both sides are now finishing quite poorly – Tipp have three wides, while Dublin have six.

Bourke has just hit a successful free, which was straight in front of the posts, to bring Tipp back within a point of their opponents.

McCrabbe is played through on goal, but the keeper makes a good stop to deny Dublin. They’ve come close to getting a goal on at least three occasions now.

Liam Rushe has just scored his second point in succession, to give Dublin a well-deserved two-point lead.

Pa Bourke, who’s started well, has just made a great catch, before winning a free. He subsequently takes  the free himself and makes no mistake.

Noel McGrath has leveled the game with an opportunistic strike from close range.

Dublin have just racked up their seventh wide. Anthony Daly will be disappointed his side haven’t fully capitalised on their dominance.

However, as I type, McCrabbe scores a straightforward point from a free in front of the posts.

O’Meara gets his first point of the game to put Tipp in the lead for the first time, though it’s very much against the run of play.

Pa Bourke gets his fourth point of the match with a relatively easy free. Tipp now unquestionably have the momentum in this game.

On the brink of half-time, McCrabbe hits yet another wide for Dublin from a free. Their confidence in front of goal seems very low at the moment.

HALF-TIME: TIPPERARY 0-9 DUBLIN 0-7

Half-time then, and Dublin will rue a number of wides and missed goal chances. Tipp, on the other hand, have hardly been at their best, and will consider themselves lucky to be ahead.

Right, I’m off to make myself a cuppa. Join us very shortly for the second half.

This game has really mimicked the pattern of Dublin’s season so far. Anthony Daly’s men, who have already lost three from three, are currently playing reasonably well, but still losing.

Dublin captain John McCaffrey gives Dublin the perfect start to the second half, with a point.

GOAL FOR DUBLIN!

Substitute David Treacy makes an immediate impact, escaping the attentions of his marker, and firing into the top corner of the net.

So Dublin are in pole position once more. Will that goal finally force Tipp out of second gear?

If you find the definition of ‘super sub’ in the dictionary, there’s a picture of David Treacy beside it. He’s already got two points for Dublin, in addition to that goal, since coming on at half-time.

Pa Bourke scores his sixth point of the game, before somewhat surprisingly being replaced by John Ryan.

Noel McGrath has brought Tipp to within two points of Dublin again, with a free in front of the posts.

With 15 minutes remaining, Dublin still look the better team, while showing a lack of ruthlessness in their failure to kill off the opposition.

And as I type, O’Meara has made it a one-point game.

O’Meara has done it again to bring Tipp level. Can they steal it in the dying stages of this game?

O’Callaghan restores Dublin’s advantage, before Johnny Ryan equalises. Niall McMorrow then scores from an immensely difficult angle for Dublin.

It looks like it’s going to be a nail-biting finish.

It’s difficult to keep up at the moment, with five points being scored in the past two minutes.

Free for Tipp, very close to goal. This could be a crucial moment.

Noel McGrath sensibly takes the point when he could have gone for the goal.

O’Meara gives Tipp the lead. It’s incredible how similar this has been to the first-half.

John O’Brien has given Tipp the lead again and Shane McGrath extends it. There’ll be three minutes of added time.

O’Meara has just scored an audacious fifth point of the game to surely seal the victory for Tipp.

GOAL FOR DUBLIN!

FULL-TIME: DUBLIN 2-15 TIPPERARY 0-21

Incredible drama at the end, as Liam Rushe shows his class, expertly collecting a hopeful ball upfield and hammering home to give Dublin a deserved share of the spoils. Tipp will be kicking themselves though.

So that’s that. The game ends in a draw – a result that neither side can complain about too much. Tipp did not really perform well enough to earn a victory, and Dublin’s consistent sloppiness in front of goal ensured a draw was all they could ultimately achieve, thanks to a moment of brilliance from Liam Rushe.

Okay, that’s it from me for this liveblog. I’ll be back to liveblog the Munster match shortly. Thanks for reading and commenting.
