Barcelona's new €30.5m signing influenced to join by Brazilian legend

Arriving from Benfica, the defender says that former Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldinho was a hero of his as a youngster.

BARCELONA’S NEW SIGNING Nelson Semedo has revealed the Ronaldinho was one of the reasons he joined the Camp Nou side.

The 23-year-old right-back, who signed from Benfica for €30.5 million, is a long-time admirer of the former Barca playmaker, who caught his eye when playing for the Primera Division giants.

“The presence of Ronaldinho had a great influence in my decision,” he revealed to El Mundo Deportivo. “Since I was little, I’ve always liked Barcelona.

“At the moment, Barcelona is one of the best sides in the world. Lionel Messi and Neymar are otherworldly players, but the whole team has great quality.”

Semedo had been part of Benfica’s setup since 2012 but he says he has adapted well to his new surroundings at Barca.

The first few days have been very good,” the Portugal international confirmed.

“My adaptation is going well because of the help of my team-mates and everything has been very easy.

“I came to the best team in the world. It’s a side with a great structure and has players of the highest level.”
