Nick Williams commits to Ulster rugby until 2016

The back row has signed a new contract to remain at Ravnehill.

NICK WILLIAMS HAS handed Ulster a boost ahead of the start of the Heineken Cup by committing to the province with a new contract that will keep him at Ravenhill until the summer of 2016.

The Ulster rugby website confirmed today that the back row player, whose current deal was due to run out at the end of this campaign, has signed a new deal.

Williams has previously played for Munster and Italian outfit Aironi before joining Ulster in June 2012.

Ulster open their Heineken Cup campaign on Friday week, October 11th, with a home tie against Leicester Tigers in their Pool 5 clash. Benetton Treviso and Montpellier are their other opponents in the group.

“It’s always nice to stay where you’re happy”, revealed Williams. “My family and I have settled really well and it means I can go out and enjoy myself on the pitch.

“Everything has fallen into place and I wouldn’t want to play anywhere else to be honest. We’re very excited for this season. When you play the game you want to win silverware.

“We lost in the PRO12 final last year and it was very tough to take. Departing at the quarters in the Heineken Cup was gut wrenching as well so I guess there’s some unfinished business. It’s a stronger squad now.”

Ulster’s Director of Rugby David Humphreys praised Williams contribution since joining.

“He is a genuine entertainer and is someone who possesses the ability to inspire the players around him and get the crowd on their feet.

“Off the field, he’s a tremendous personality to have around the dressing room and I’m delighted he’s committed to Ulster until 2016.”
