Revenue busts oil laundering plant that could have cost State €10m a year

A 42-year-old man was arrested in connection with the find, which included a large among of laundered fuel and toxic waste.

REVENUE HAS UNCOVERED this large oil laundering plant in Inniskeen, Co Monaghan which  had the potential to cost the Exchequer €10 million a year.

In an intelligence-led operation supported by gardaí, officials uncovered the large plant in Drumboat yesterday.

The plant had the capacity to launder 20 million litres of fuel each year, which represents a potential loss of €10.5 million to the State of the oil made its way into the market place.

The oil laundering plant and a mobile oil laundry concealed in an oil tanker were found in a commercial yard.

Officials seized 50,000 litres of laundered fuel, three oil tankers, two stationary tanks and ancillary equipment from the site. Revenue said today that toxic waste was also uncovered.

A 42-year-old man was arrested and taken to Carrickmacross Garda Station. Investigations are ongoing with a view to prosecution.
