Look at these old Inter Cert Irish schoolbooks

Peig, never far from our thoughts.

IF YOU REMEMBER the Inter Cert, then you’re probably old enough to remember Euro 88, Johnny Logan’s multiple Eurovision wins (or Dana’s even?) and hell, maybe even the Pope’s visit to the Phoenix Park.

You might also remember books like these, discovered by DailyEdge.ie reader Mary Geraghty and used during the “good old sixties and seventies schooldays”.

peig

Peig Sayers’ account of life on the Blasket Islands was studied for decades in Irish schools until the late nineties/early 2000s.

killeen

John P Killeen’s poetry book was published in 1967 by the Educational Company of Ireland and studied as part of Inter Cert English before being replaced by books like Soundings.

The Inter Cert was studied by Irish teenagers until 1992, when it was replaced by the Junior Certificate, which in turn is now making way for the Junior Cycle Student Award.
