Oliver finally ousts Jack

Oliver is now the most popular boy’s name in Britain, while the most popular girl’s name is Olivia.

JACK HAS BEEN OUSTED AS the baby name of choice for boys in England and Wales, after 14 years at the top.

As Olivia retains top spot for girl’s names, the new most popuar name for boys is Oliver.

Variations on Oliver include Ollie, Olly, Olli and Oli.

The Beckhams appear to have made an impression on people’s baby name choices, given the number of Brooklyns, Romeos and Cruzs born in England and Wales last year.

The list has seen little other major changes, according to the Guardian, as just six new names made it into the top 100: Aiden, Arthur, Frederick, Jude, Stanley and Austin.

The top 10  names for boys: Oliver, Jack, Harry, Alfie, Joshua, Thomas, Charlie, William, James and Daniel.

The top 10 for girls: Olivia, Ruby, Chloe, Emily, Sophie, Jessica, Grace, Lily, Amelia, Evie.

In contrast with British baby names, Isabella, Emma and Olivia were the top three for girls, while Jacob, Ethan and Michael were the top three for boys.

The most rapidly rising boy’s name in the US was Cullen, which the Guardian points out is the surname of the main male character in the Twilight series.
