KERRY STAR DARRAN O’Sullivan has confirmed that he will be playing no part in the forthcoming International Rules series.
O’Sullivan yesterday indicated he believed there was still a chance he could represent his country, however these hopes were quashed today.
Communicating via his Twitter account, he complained:
“So it’s confirmed as of this morning, no Oz for me! Cheers county board and Munster council ye were no help!”
The player had been named in the original squad for the series, however, he was forced to reluctantly turn the opportunity down on account of his club commitments.
Meanwhile, Donegal centre back Karl Lacey, who was one of the stars of the Championship this year, will be called into the squad, according to the Irish Daily Star (print edition).
However, doubt still remains over whether captain Stephen Cluxton will be able to take his place on the trip.
Speaking to the Irish News, Tyrone’s Joe McMahon acknowledged that the squad may have to cope without Cluxton:
“Stephen is our captain. It’s a decision that the management have come to and it would be a big loss. Whatever happens, I suppose we have to get on with it.”
The first of the two tests against Australia takes place on Friday 28 October, with the second test taking place one week later. Both games will kick off at 9.45am.
