Wes Hoolahan and Love/Hate stars to take part in Owen Heary tribute match

The former Bohemians and Shelbourne defender will be honoured at Dalymount Park on 17 November.

A HOST OF Owen Heary’s former team-mates will line out in his tribute match next month.

The 37-year-old veteran defender called time on his glittering career in the League of Ireland, during which he has won seven Premier Division titles, when he replaced Aaron Callaghan to become Bohemians’ caretaker manager midway through the current season.

Having seen out the campaign by keeping Bohs in the Premier Division working alongside Bobby Browne, Heary came on as a late substitute during the final day defeat to Drogheda on Friday for what was his last Airtricity League appearance.

As reported by the Evening Herald, a testimonial match between the Gypsies and a Manchester United XI was initially arranged but had to be cancelled after the FAI refused to give the game the green light as testimonials are not permitted for amateur players.

Instead, they now will take on another of Heary’s former teams Shelbourne at Dalymount Park on Sunday, 17 November.

Ex team-mates including Norwich and Ireland schemer Wes Hoolahan, Yeovil Town’s Paddy Madden, Doncaster Rovers midfielder Paul Keegan and several legendary LOI players have been confirmed while Pat Fenlon and Dermot Keely will manage the teams.

Love/Hate pair Laurence Kinlan (Elmo) and Peter Coonan (Fran) will also make guest appearances.

Bohemians Selection: Brian Murphy, Dean Delany, Thomas Heary, Glen Crowe, Neale Fenn, Paul Keegan, Mark Rossiter, Anto Murphy, Ken Oman, Jason McGuinness, Fergal Harkin, Stephen O’Donnell, Paddy Madden, Ryan McEvoy, Killian Brennan, Gary Deegan, Conor Powell.

Shelbourne Selection: Steve Williams, Richie Baker, Stuart Byrne, Jamie Harris, Alan Cawley, Declan Geoghegan, Stephen Geoghegan, Kevin Doherty, Ollie Cahill, Glen Fitzpatrick, Joseph Ndo, Alan Reynolds, Derek Pender, Wes Hoolahan.
