Paddy Wallace facing two months on the sidelines

Ireland centre went under the knife yesterday to repair tendon damage in his left thumb, ruling him out of the province’s Heineken Cup group games.

ULSTER WILL HAVE to plan without Ireland international Paddy Wallace for up to eight weeks.

Wallace went under the knife yesterday to repair tendon damage in his left thumb, ruling him out of the province’s Heineken Cup group games.

The centre hurt his thumb during last weekend’s win over ASM Clermont Auvergne at Ravenhill.

He tweeted this morning: “Gutted to be out of action for a while. Underwent surgery on thumb yesterday and it went well Hoping for a speedy recovery. Thanks for support.”

He also tweeted very graphic pictures of the procedure, if you want to go and find those yourself.

A statement from officials today reads: “The club’s medical staff had hoped surgery could be avoided but after reassessment on Wednesday, a decision was taken for Wallace to have an operation.”

Ulster take on Leicester Tigers tomorrow in their second European Cup game.
