Pádraig Amond off the mark in Portugal

First strike for former Sligo Rovers forward.

FORMER SLIGO ROVERS striker Pádraig Amond last night struck his first goal for Portuguese side Pacos de Ferreira.

According to Greenscene:

Pacos were playing the second leg of the Bwin League Cup, after ending 1-1 away to Leixoes.

Last night, Pacos returned home to the Matos Real, and Amond was selected to start up front alongside Nelson Olivera. Olivera is another youngster, only 19 but with a huge future ahead of him.

He’s on loan from Benfica, and has already scored three times for Pacos (one of which came last night). Amond and Olivera teamed up very well, and the Irishman scored his first goal for the club in the 8th minute to give Pacos an early lead.

Pacos – despite some scares – held on for a 2-1 win.

The goal will be a welcome boost for the 22-year-old as his former team-mates at the Showgrounds prepare for a cup final against Shamrock Rovers.

Amond’s girlfriend, the glamour model, Clare Tully responded via Twitter:

The boy has scored his first goal tonight 8 minutes after getting his second start since the move. DELIGHTED : – D
