Paedophile 'outs himself' in new TV documentary --- to be shown tomorrow

The man confesses on camera to his attraction to children as young as five.

CHANNEL 4 IS to broadcast a documentary which includes an interview with a self-confessed paedophile.

Entitled ‘The Paedophile Next Door’  — the programme will be shown by the British broadcaster at 9pm tomorrow.

The man in question gave a face-to-face interview to the programme’s host — historian and social documentary-maker, Steve Humphries.

According to the channel, he confesses on camera “to his strong sexual attraction for children as young as five”.

“He claims that he has not interfered with a child, nor could ever imagining doing so.

He is so desperate for help that he is prepared to ‘out’ himself in the hope that men like him will be more readily offered support to manage their unwanted desires.

The documentary aims to discover why the elaborate procedures and law designed to protect children from sexual abuse appear to have failed.

It examines, producers say, some radical new solutions proposed by child protection experts “which challenge our deep-rooted attitudes and emotional reactions to paedophiles”.

One expert who contributed to the programme believes the most promising way to reduce the number of child abuse cases is to encourage paedophiles who have not yet targeted children to ‘come out’ and receive treatment.

Humphries also hears from experts who explain that the fear, self-loathing and stress paedophiles associate with their desires makes them actually more likely to offend. He also explores schemes and initiatives designed to help paedophiles before they might hurt children.
