Munster set to sign South African centre Pat Howard

The 22-year-old is expected to arrive in Limerick later this month.

FORMER SPRINGBOK UNDERAGE international Pat Howard is set to join Munster on a short-term deal.

The 22-year-old centre will arrive later this month, subject to a medical, and provide another option in the backs while Keith Earls and Cian Bohane are out injured.

Munster head coach Anthony Foley said: “With players ruled out due to injury and a few other niggles we want to make sure we have a full spread available to us before we enter the next crucial period and Howard can provide that additional support.”

Howard joins on a three-month contract from Currie Cup holders Western Province.

The powerful back was part of the South African U20 side that won the Junior World Championship in 2012, beating Ireland on their way to victory.
