YESTERDAY’S PRO D2 semi-final in France was more Royal Rumble than rugby match.

Three players were sent off in the space of two minutes as Pau’s win against La Rochelle boiled over into all-out anarchy.

After a number of relatively minor scuffles earlier in the match, a brawl erupted on 70 minutes and when order was finally restored, referee Cédric Marchat sent off La Rochelle flanker Johan Wessels and Pau back-row Marlon Solofuti.

Jordan Seneca’s red card then reduced La Rochelle to 13 men for the final minutes as Pau held on for a 30-16 win and a place in the second division final.
