MIGHT AS WELL start this with the usual line about refs having a very tough job blah blah blah, but this missed decision by Peter Fitzgibbon is borderline insane.
He checked with the TMO to see if there was a forward pass in the build-up to an Ospreys try against Edinburgh on Sunday, and after studying the angles, decided there was no conclusive clip that showed the pass was forward.
What do you think?
Now, I have no rooting interest when the Ospreys play Edinburgh but I tend to agree with the two Scottish commentators when assessing Fitzgibbon’s decision. The problem with being able to review everything is that now referees seem to have lost the ability to make snap decisions regarding incidents that happen right in front of them.
What made this even worse, is that Fitzgibbon appears to overrule the TMO when he begins to say the pass is forward.
The online reaction to the decision was not a kind one.
