O'Leary seals All-Ireland glory

2012 Olympian Peter O’Leary beat Fionn Lyden and George Kenefick to win the ISA All-Ireland Sailing Championship on Sunday.

CORK’S PETER O’LEARY was crowned ISA All-Ireland champion for the second time on Sunday when he held off fierce competition to win on the final day of sailing in Lough Derg.

The 2012 Olympian dominated in the SailFleet J80 keelboats, beating his Baltimore SC club-mate Fionn Lyden and defending champion George Kenefick to win the Helmsman Trophy for the first time since 2006.

Irish Olympians Mark Mansfield and Ryan Seaton finished in fourth and sixth place respectively.

The absence of any wind on Saturday forced organisers to restructure the three-day regatta before eight boats went through to the decisive three races on Sunday.

Sailing with his brother Robert and Robbie English, O’Leary took immediate control by winning the first two races and finished the job when he came home second in the final race.
