Petr Cech will not start against Bayern Munich as Arsene Wenger honours Ospina agreement

Many thought Arsenal’s regular number one may get the nod for the high-profile fixture.

ARSENE WENGER HAS confirmed that David Ospina will start for Arsenal in their Champions League knockout round clash with Bayern Munich tomorrow night.

The Colombian had been an ever-present for the Gunners in the group-stage of the tournament but many had wondered if regular first-choice Petr Cech would be reinstated for the high-profile assignment with the German giants.

However, Wenger has decided to honour an agreement he made with Ospina last summer when the 28-year-old decided to stay at the Emirates provided there was rotation between him and Cech.

Ospina had been first-choice for Champions League games last season but was then dropped after the team lost successive games to Dynamo Zagreb and Olympiakos.

But he has impressed this term, keeping two clean-sheets as Arsenal topped Group A ahead of Paris Saint-Germain.

And Wenger echoed that sentiment in his Tuesday press conference in Munich by saying Ospina would start due to his quality having being such a key reason in Arsenal’s qualification to the knockout stages.
