Phone Hacking

Piers Morgan "sorry to disappoint" everyone who wanted him arrested today

This is his second time being questioned.

TELEVISION HOST AND former editor of the News of the World, Piers Morgan, has been taken in for questioning by police for a second time over phone hacking allegations.

He took to Twitter to reassure people that he wasn’t arrested, despite suggestions to the contrary:

In his statement to the Guardian, Morgan (50) said that some time after he gave a voluntary interview in December 2013, he was asked to attend an interview with officers from Operation Golding when he was next in the UK.

He said he attended this interview today, and he would not be commenting further until the operation came to its conclusion.

He was last questioned in December 2013 by police.

Morgan was editor of the Daily Mirror from 1995 to 2004. Before that, he was editor of Rupert Murdoch’s News of the World. The latter folded during the hacking scandal in 2011.

He was sacked from the Daily Mirror’s editor post in 2004 after fake photos of British soldiers purportedly abusing Iraqis were published by the paper.

Operation Golding is a strand of Operation Weeting, which is investigating phone hacking at the News of the World.

Morgan is currently the US editor-at-large for Mail Online, as well as a television presenter based in the US.
