Poll: Was RTÉ right to ask a minister to remove his Yes pin?

There were some strange scenes on The Saturday Night Show.

LAST NIGHT, MINISTER of State for Equality Aodhán Ó Riordáin was asked to remove a Yes Equality pin while appearing on an RTÉ chat show.

The minister removed the pin but the request that he do so was criticised by many online.

RTÉ’s decision was likely based on BAI rules that broadcasters’ coverage of referendums must be “fair, objective and impartial to all interests”.

The 1995 McKenna judgement also outlines that the government can’t use public money to promote one side of a referendum.

So, today’s question, Was RTÉ right to ask a minister to remove his Yes pin?

Poll Results:

No. Asking him to remove it was unnecessary. (9628)
Yes. Rules are rules. (8766)
Yes, but the rules are unfair on broadcasters. (2515)
