IRELAND TAKE ON Australia in the second Test of the International Rules Series at the Metricon Stadium tomorrow morning.
But, ahead of next year’s rest season, speculation is mounting that the game may be the last compromise meeting – for good.
Though a mere 23,000 or so watched Ireland rout the hosts – building a 44-point lead to take to the Gold Cost – GAA president Christy Cooney this morning denied that the series could die due to a lack of interest.
There has been “absolutely no indication” of either country pulling the plug on the series, Cooney said after this morning’s press conference.
Asked to pinpoint the reason for the negativity surrounding this year’s series – in which many of the hosts’ big names are missing – Irish coach Anthony Tohill suggested that his Australian counterparts may have misjudged the public mood.
“Sometimes you can be complacent about things, maybe that is the case here,” he said.
