FOLLOWING THEIR COMPREHENSIVE 3-0 loss to Rubin Kazan in their first-ever Europa League group game, it doesn’t get any easier tonight, as Shamrock Rovers take on a Spurs side believed to be worth in the region of £50million.
While Harry Redknapp is set to name a second string team, the Tottenham starting XI will still include a number of internationals of the calibre of Roman Pavlyuchenko and Sebastien Bassong.
In the press conference following the loss to Rubin, manager Michael O’Neill was even asked whether he believed Rovers had a chance of picking up any points in what is an extremely tough group.
While the manager remained optimistic that they could cause a surprise or two in the competition, some doubt still exists over whether Rovers can succeed at this level.
However, they have answered questions before about their ability to compete against better teams than they are used to facing, most notably in their surprise away victory against Partisan Belgrade.
So it would surely be foolish to write off Rovers entirely.
With all this in mind, we’re asking: what can Rovers expect from tonight’s game against Spurs?
