Poll: What's your favourite memory of the 2011 Rugby World Cup?

In what has generally been regarded as an excellent tournament, we recall some of the moments that defined the event. What’s been your highlight?

WHAT WILL BE your abiding 2011 Rugby World Cup memory of choice?

Will it be Ireland’s inspired performance in which they defied the odds to beat Australia?

Will it be the thrilling final and the emotional scenes at the end when the burden of a nation’s hopes was finally lifted off the New Zealand side?

Will it be the equally exciting semi-final that simply had everything including a hugely divisive refereeing decision that was – depending on who you talk to – one of the best or worst decisions ever made by a referee in a game of such magnitude?

Or maybe you preferred one of the less important but arguably more exciting games, such as Tonga’s unlikely victory over France, which epitomised the breath of fresh air that some of the lower-tier nations brought to the tournament.

Perhaps it isn’t a game, but simply a person, that defined the tournament. Regardless of whether you love or hate Marc Lievremont, you cannot accuse him of being boring. His eccentric antics will surely be remembered for some time to come.

And finally, the tournament caused a brief period of elation when Ireland belatedly began to deliver  the sort of commendable performances they were always capable of producing.

The hoopla and goodwill stemming from the team’s achievements was arguably best captured by the hugely popular series of  #seanobrienfacts – a topic that quickly gained momentum on Twitter. Was this the moment that did it for you?

So go ahead and vote in our poll below. And let us know if we’ve forgotten anything.
