Poll: Would James McCarthy be a good signing for Arsenal?

Reports suggest the Gunners are ready to make an £8million bid for the Irish international.

REPORTS TODAY SUGGEST that Arsenal are preparing an £8million bid for Irish international James McCarthy.

The 22-year-old, who has impressed with Wigan this season, has been linked to Liverpool, Everton and Manchester United recently, but the Mirror claim that Arsene Wenger’s side will be the first team to put in a formal bid for the player.

The midfielder is highly rated by the Latics’ manager Roberto Martinez, and has also impressed in his in appearances for Ireland at international level, so many may consider him an astute acquisition for the Gunners if he does sign.

On the other hand, critics will insist McCarthy has yet to fulfil his potential and he may struggle to get into a team that includes players of the quality of Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere.

So what do you think? Would James McCarthy be a good signing for Arsenal?
