Portlaoise 2-13

Emo 0-7

ZACH TOUHY SCORED 1-2 as Portlaoise quickly snuffed out any chance of an upset and clinched their ninth straight Laois senior football title.

The champions won’t have long to savour their win though. They return to action tomorrow afternoon in the first round of the Leinster championship against Palatine of Carlow.

There was no repeat of the heroics which saw Emo snatch an unlikely draw the first time out. They were on the back foot from the fifth minute when Tuohy grabbed the opening goal to give Portlaoise a  1-2 to 0-1 lead.

The town reeled off another six unanswered points as they turned the screw and led by 1-8 to 0-3 at the break.

Paul Cahillane added a second after the break as Portlaoise eased to a 12-point win and started to think about their next engagement.
