FIVE OF LEINSTER’S double-winning side have been included in the 2017/18 Pro14 team of the season, while beaten finalists Scarlets also have five representatives in the selection announced this evening.
Andrew Porter, Scott Fardy, Jack Conan, Jordan Larmour and James Lowe were all named in the league’s Dream Team, but there were no Munster players included despite the southern province getting to the semi-final stage.
Ulster’s John Cooney was named at scrum-half in recognition of his impressive first season in Belfast, with Glasgow Warriors flanker Callum Gibbins selected as the captain.
To be eligible, players had to have made at least nine appearances during the 2017/18 campaign, with the team named after over 75 members of the media voted on last season’s top performers.
Larmour, who was also named the young player of the season, is joined on the opposite wing by Kiwi Lowe, who made a big impact in his debut season with the eastern province as they won their fifth Pro14 title.
Five of the Scarlets side which were beaten in May’s final at the Aviva Stadium were also rewarded with selection, including the now Munster second row/flanker Tadhg Beirne who was named as the Pro14 players’ player of the year in Glasgow this evening.
Hadleigh Parkes, Rhys Patchell, Rob Evans and Aaron Shingler were also included.
