You know that nice Puma Ireland rugby jersey you got? Yeah, it's getting replaced

The manufacturer are pulling out of their rugby commitments across Europe.

THE IRFU HAS today announced that they have reached an agreement to end Puma’s contract as the union’s official kit supplier.

Puma took over as manufacturer of Ireland’s rugby kit after the Grand Slam success in 2009.

Today’s announcement comes as part of the company’s intention to exit all of their rugby associations in Europe and they will wrap up their commitment to Ireland at the end of the 2013/14 season.

“Puma has very much enjoyed its association with Irish Rugby,” Puma’s general manager in Ireland, Tony Ward said in a statement. He added, “this decision reflects a broader strategic shift in PUMA’s international marketing and product focus.”

IRFU chief executive Philip Browne echoed that the two parties had “enjoyed” the partnership and stressed that there is sufficient time to build a new brand on the jersey in time for the 2015 Rugby World Cup in England.

Browne said: “With the RWC 2015 in England, the 18 month time scale for the ongoing supply of kit allows us ample time to source a world class kit partner to replace the PUMA brand.”
