Litter of newborn puppies found 'heartlessly drowned' in Mayo

The puppies were found by a woman and her daughter who were out walking their own dogs in the area.

**WARNING** This article contains images some people may find distressing.

IRELAND’S ANIMAL CRUELTY crisis has been highlighted once again as images emerged of a litter of puppies in Mayo that had been drowned and dumped near a stream.

The horrific discovery was made by a woman and her daughter, who were out walking their own dogs in the area.

The newborn pups can be seen next to an empty cattle feed sack, which may have been used to hold them.

Mayo SPCA Mayo SPCA

On its Facebook page, Mayo SPCA said “these innocent pups had been heartlessly drowned”.

There is no need for such callous acts, as spaying is always available at discounted rates through Mayo SPCA – it just needs a call. No need for unwanted pups to be born, and certainly no need for such cruelty by drowning.

They appealed to anyone who is struggling with an animal in their care to contact them for help.

“Don’t ever be too embarrassed to let us know if you can’t cope,” the charity said. “We will always try to help.”
