AUSTRALIA DEFEATED SCOTLAND 21 – 15 in Edinburgh this evening to take their winning run under new coach to Ewen McKenzie to three.
While the Wallabies had two tries to boast via Israel Folau and winger Chris Feauai-Sautia, the coolest thing to our eyes was the sight of two Kiwi-born cousins trading the jerseys of their adopted nations at full-time.
Quade Cooper and Sean Maitland are cousins and were both born in the north of New Zealand.
While Cooper moved to Brisbane in his teens and became a star of the Wallabies, Maitland headed to Christchurch to join the Canterbury Crusaders before heeding his Glaswegian grandfather’s words to remember his roots and headed for Scotland.
Tonight, they met on the international stage.
All of Scotland’s points came via the boot of Greig Laidlaw in much improved performance from the 28 – 0 to South Africa last week.
The Wallabies, though content with a winning end to the season, must head south wondering how they did not win by more and pointing at a poor pitch and poor kicking from Christian Lealiifano who missed five penalties.
