Murder investigation launched as body found at same location as abandoned baby Maria identified by gardaí

The discovery was made at Steelstown Lane in Rathcoole.

GARDAÍ HAVE IDENTIFIED the male body discovered at Steelstown Lane near Rathcoole, County Dublin.

The location is the same spot where a newborn baby girl, now known as Maria, was found earlier this month.

He has been identified as 37-year-old Andrew Guerrine with an address in Crumlin, Dublin.

Gardaí can confirm that Andrew Guerrine died in violent circumstances and a murder investigation has commenced.

Preliminary results from the post-mortem examination have been furnished to investigating gardaí, however details are not being released for operational reasons.

Investigating gardaí are continuing to appeal for witnesses to contact the Incident Room at Clondalkin Garda Station. They are particularly appealing to anyone who may have travelled on Steelstown lane in the early hours of Saturday morning, 23 May 2015, to contact them.

At a press conference earlier this week, Superintendent Brendan Connolly said the investigation was at an early stage and “no link has been established between this incident and the discovery of a baby girl in the same vicinity in recent weeks”.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Clondalkin Garda Station on 01-6667600, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
