€150k fund to support artists with disabilities or mental health problems

The fund, which is being run by the Rehab Group, will help people to pursue careers in the arts over the next five years.

A NEW FUND is to provide €150,000 to help people with disabilities or mental health difficulties pursue a career in the arts.

The money is being provided by The Rehab Group, which has begun taking applications from artists who are looking for financial support for the coming year.

The fund will take applications from people who are working or studying in an area of visual and performing arts, ranging from painting and graphic art to dance, film and music.

Around €30,000 will be given out every year for the next five years. The grants will be worth between €1,000 and €10,000 for every successful individual or project.

“We really want to get the message out there that this fund is available for people who have a disability or a mental health difficulty who wish to develop their career in the arts,” said Angela Kerins, Rehab Group Chief Executive.

“We want to give talented people a stepping stone to a successful career in their chosen area of the arts”.

The Rehab Visual and Performing Arts Fund is open to people with disabilities who are aged 17 and over. Applicants will be judged on their portfolio, potential and creativity and originality.

The closing date for applications is 28 February.
