court orders

There were 365 repossession orders made in the first 6 months of this year

There were 313 made in the Circuit Court and 52 made in the High Court.

FROM JANUARY TO June 2014, there were 365 repossession orders made by the courts.

A total of 313 of these were made in the Circuit Court, with 267 of them being for residential properties, while 46 were non-residential.

In the same period there were 52 repossession orders made in the High Court.

Answering a parliamentary question, the Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald said that in total, last year there were 343 repossession orders made in the Circuit Court, with 107 in the High Court.

Courts

The number of repossession orders granted falls very short compared to the number of new cases initiated before the court for repossession of land. From January to June 2014, there were 4,315 new cases before the Circuit Court, compared to last year, where there was just 2,498.

There were 332 new repossession cases before the High Court last year, but there have been 82 new cases in the first six months of this year.

It is important to note orders for possession do not necessarily equate with repossessions as it is up to the person of company who obtained the order to follow it through.
