Some Irish people still have secret bank accounts their partners don't know about

A few people admitted to having a secret bank account.

ALMOST 50% OF people wish their partners were more responsible when it comes to money.

A survey of over 500 Irish people aged between 18 and 65 revealed that four in ten people wanted their other half to be better with money.

The survey, carried out by Behaviour & Attitudes on behalf of RaboDirect, also shows that one in ten people actually have a secret bank account that their partner doesn’t know about.

Secret stash

Often referred to as “running away money”, the survey shows that women are more likely to have cash stashed away (8%), while just 5% of men said they had a separate bank account somewhere.

On a positive note, the majority of couples, over 80%, said they are comfortable discussing money matters with their partners.

Over 78% said that it’s important to know everything about their partner’s finances. Women say this is particularly important to them, with nine out of ten women saying it’s vital to know all there is to know.

When it comes to actually believing our partners, it seems there could be an issue.

Fewer men than women (62% versus 79%) actually believe that they know everything about their partner’s finances.

Of those surveyed just over half (53%) said they had a joint savings account.
